70th Anniversary

This year we proudly celebrate our 70th anniversary. We feel that is quite an accomplishment, and we are proud to have served our community and the surrounding areas for so long. We owe it to our customers, and we truly appreciate every one of them.

Seventy years of staying put

Buffington Brothers Heating & Cooling opened in 1951. In the years since, the heating and cooling industry has changed almost beyond recognition — from simple gas furnaces and window units to variable-speed equipment, heat pumps, zoning, and air quality systems that would have looked like science fiction to our founders.

What has not changed is who owns the company. Being family owned and operated for 70 years is no easy task, but we did it, and we intend to keep doing it.

What has changed along the way

Growing from a two-person operation into a business of more than forty people meant learning new trades as our customers needed them:

• From residential to commercial. We started in homes and expanded into commercial work, which today includes everything from rooftop units to commercial plumbing.
• Beyond heating and cooling. Insulation, attic ventilation, and air duct cleaning became part of what we offer, because comfort problems are rarely just the equipment.
• Indoor air quality. Air purification, humidity control, ventilation, and UV germicidal lights are now a routine part of the conversation rather than a specialty request.
• Standby power. Generators, so an outage does not mean losing heat in January.

The part we are proudest of

Certifications and awards matter — our team is NATE and EPA certified, and we have been a Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer since 2003 — but they are not what makes seventy years possible.

What makes it possible is repeat customers. Families who called us for a furnace, then called again years later for an air conditioner, then told their kids to call us when they bought their first house. In a town the size of Poplar Bluff, that only happens if you treat people right the first time and every time after.
