Build a career with a family that's been here since 1951.
Buffington Brothers hires technicians, installers, and office staff to serve homes and commercial buildings across Poplar Bluff, Southeast Missouri, and Northeast Arkansas.
Why Buffington
A real local company to build a career with.
Buffington Brothers has been doing heating, cooling, and commercial mechanical work out of Poplar Bluff for over seven decades. The reason it has lasted is the same reason it’s a strong place to work: trained people, the right backing, and a local team that takes care of its own.
Family company
Family-owned in Poplar Bluff since 1951.
Three generations of Buffingtons have run this shop from the same town it serves. The name on the truck is the family answering the phone.
Real backing
Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer, licensed and insured.
You'll work with a contractor that holds itself to manufacturer training standards and stands behind the work — not a flip-by-night outfit.
Real range
Residential and commercial work, year-round.
Service calls, equipment changeouts, ductwork, IAQ, maintenance, and commercial mechanical projects across Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas.
Local team
Coworkers and customers who actually live here.
Our people are from this area. The crews, dispatchers, and office staff all live in the same communities we serve.
What we offer
The kind of place to actually stay.
The shop has people who started as apprentices and grew into senior techs and project leads. Here’s what we put behind that.
Ongoing manufacturer training.
Carrier-authorized training, factory updates, and field mentorship keep your skills current as equipment changes.
Year-round work.
Heating in the winter, cooling in the summer, IAQ and maintenance in the shoulder seasons, plus commercial mechanical projects whenever the schedule calls for them.
A real growth path.
Apprentices grow into installers; installers cross-train into service; service techs grow into senior leads, commercial work, or training roles. We promote from inside whenever we can.
Branded trucks and stocked parts.
You show up to the call dressed in Buffington Brothers red, in a marked truck people recognize, with what you need to actually finish the job.
A supportive team.
Dispatchers, install coordinators, and senior techs who back you up. Nobody gets sent in cold.
Compensation, PTO, and benefits package.
We'll walk through the specifics — base pay, overtime, PTO, holidays, insurance, and retirement options — during your interview, based on the role you're applying for.
Specific pay, PTO, insurance, and retirement details depend on the role and your experience. Ask us about the full benefits package during your interview — we’ll walk through it honestly.

Apply to a specific role below, or call the shop if you’d rather start the conversation by phone.
HVAC Service Technician
Diagnose, repair, and maintain residential and light commercial HVAC equipment for Buffington customers across Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas. You'll work out of a fully stocked truck, with support from dispatch and senior techs, representing a family-owned shop that's been here since 1951.
HVAC Installation Technician
Install residential and light commercial HVAC systems, ductwork, and related equipment with the kind of workmanship customers actually notice. You'll be part of an install crew that takes the time to do the job right the first time — heat pumps, furnaces, air conditioners, ductless, geothermal, and the ductwork that makes it all work.
Customer Service Representative
Be the friendly first voice customers hear when they call Buffington Brothers. You'll schedule service, coordinate with technicians and installers in the field, and keep the office moving so the crew can focus on the work in front of them.
A day in the life
Real homes. Real buildings. Real teams.
Some days are residential service calls in Poplar Bluff. Other days are commercial installs on a school rooftop. Whatever you’re working on, you’re backed by a Carrier-trained shop and crews you actually know.
The pictures aren’t stock photography. They’re Buffington trucks, Buffington crews, and customers from this community.

Frequently asked
Honest answers from the shop.
These are the questions people ask most often before applying. Anything not covered here, just call the office — we’d rather answer questions up front than waste anybody’s time.
Call (573) 785-6768What service area does Buffington Brothers cover?
We serve homes and businesses across Poplar Bluff and the surrounding region — Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas. The shop is at 110 N Riverview Dr, Poplar Bluff, MO 63901, and most calls are within driving range of that office.
Do I need an EPA certification or a license?
Service and installation roles that handle refrigerant require EPA Section 608 certification. Helper and apprentice roles do not require certification on day one — we'll help the right candidate get there. A valid driver's license and a clean MVR are required for any role that drives a company truck.
Is the work residential or commercial?
Both. Most service calls are residential, but Buffington has been doing commercial mechanical work for decades — rooftop equipment, light commercial buildings, schools and churches, ductwork retrofits. We try to match the work to the people who like it most.
Is the work seasonal, or year-round?
Year-round. Heating season carries us through the winter, cooling season through the summer, and IAQ, ductwork, maintenance plans, and commercial projects fill in around them. Buffington techs are paid year-round.
What does the growth path look like?
We promote from inside whenever we can. Helpers and apprentices grow into lead installers; installers cross-train into service; service techs move into senior leads, commercial mechanical work, or training and dispatch. We'll talk through where you want to go in the interview.
Who do I talk to if I have questions before applying?
Call the shop at (573) 785-6768. Ask for hiring — someone in the office can answer questions about a specific role, the schedule, or the application process.
