Trusted since 1951

Trusted since 1951

Trusted since 1951.

It is a short line to put on a truck. It is a much longer thing to actually do — more than seven decades of letting strangers into your home, and being invited back.

What trust is built from in this trade

Heating and cooling is an unusually trust-dependent business. Most of what you pay for is invisible by the time the work is finished. You cannot inspect the duct connections behind the drywall, verify the refrigerant charge, or confirm that the load calculation was done rather than guessed.

That asymmetry is why it matters who you call. Trust is not built through advertising; it is built through a long series of small decisions made when nobody is watching:

  • Telling you when you do not need something. If a system has years left, saying so costs a sale today and keeps a customer for a decade.
  • Showing you the failed part rather than asking you to take it on faith.
  • Doing the work behind the wall correctly, because the alternative is only ever discovered by the next contractor.
  • Quoting what the job costs, without today-only pricing or pressure.
  • Coming back to fix it when something is not right, without argument.

Since 1951 means something specific

Buffington Brothers was founded in 1951 by Claude and Vernon Buffington. Stan Buffington, Claude's son, grew up in the business and bought it with his wife Mary around 1974, growing it from two people to more than forty. Their children Stacy and Ryan run it today as the third generation, and their grandchildren — the fourth — are already around the office.

Same family. Same town. Same name on the building at 110 North Riverview Drive.

In an industry where companies are frequently bought, merged, or rolled up into out-of-state ownership, that continuity is worth stating plainly. When we warranty our work, the company standing behind that warranty is the same one that will be here in ten years.

Experience has to stay current

Seven decades of experience would be a liability if it meant doing things the 1970s way. The equipment has changed completely — variable-speed systems, heat pumps that hold capacity in real cold, communicating controls, indoor air quality equipment that did not exist a generation ago.

So our technicians and installers hold NATE certification and EPA certification, training continues throughout their careers, and we have maintained Carrier Factory Authorized Dealer status since 2003 — a designation that is re-evaluated on training, customer satisfaction, and business practices rather than granted permanently.

Neighbors, not just a service provider

Our family and staff are from this area. We support Sacred Heart Catholic Church and School and sports through the Poplar Bluff school system. We run into our customers at the grocery store and at ball games.

That is its own quality control. It is difficult to cut a corner on someone you will see on Saturday.
